Branding the AfroFuture
with Stacey Robinson
Originally raised in Albany, New York, Stacey Robinson took off to New York City to pursue his career of art in the late 90s on the day the influential rapper Tupac died. Robinson blends hip hop culture and Afrofuturism in graphic styles, to speak of black power in passionate terms. “Branding the Afrofuture” is about redefining what blackness is. Robinson describes AfroFuturism as “Black people exploring the past, present and speculative future; taking action to define black tomorrows by using science, technology, engineering, (through the arts) and math in an effort to reimagine and change our existence, resulting in freedom from colonial interference”.
